Maurizio Lontano,
Maurizio Giuseppe Lontano is born in 1955 and has got his Master degree in Physics (Laurea in Fisica) at the Universita' degli Studi, Milan, in 1978. Since 1982 Researcher at the Istituto
di Fisica del Plasma (IFP, Plasma Physics Institute), at CNR (National Research Council), he has been working in several fields of theory and modeling of Plasma Physics and of Controlled
Thermonuclear Fusion, mostly in the frame of international collaborations.
In recent years he has been involved in the development of the theoretical understanding of the interaction of ultra-intense laser with dense plasmas and of the consequent acceleration
of charged particles, and in modeling particular types of plasma instabilities, so called Ion Temperature Gradient (ITG) driven instabilities, which are likely to be excited in magnetized fusion
and laboratory plasmas.
He has been also Responsible of the Project "Experiments and models of scaled innovative plasma processes" at IFP.
He has been Member of the CIVR (the Italian Research Evaluation Committee).
In the period 2004-2008 he has been Member of the Scientific Committee of IFP.
Since July 16th, 2008, M. Lontano has been appointed as Director of the IFP, and consequently Head of EURATOM Research Unit ENEA-CNR in Milan, in the frame of the Italian
EURATOM-ENEA-CNR Association on Fusion.
He is author of about 80 scientific papers on peer-reviewd international journals and of more than one hundred presentations at international conferences. He has been also member of
several Programme Committees of International Scientific Conferences.
He has also been in charge of Master Courses in Plasma Physics at the University of Milan-Bicocca and in Magnetohydrodynamics at the Polytechnic of Milan.
